Home visits are an essential part of the service we offer to our patients and when someone is coming to the end of life, or they are debilitated by an acute illness a home visit is often the best way to offer appropriate help and support to the patient and their family. However, due to increasing pressure on our services we have to become much more strict about who is eligable for a home visit. A home visit takes much longer than an appointment in the surgery. It takes the clinicians away from the practice and also costs the practice a substantial amount of money. Patients who are able to attend hospital appointments and who get out to the shops with friends and family should expect to attend the surgery for their health care appointments even if they might have to use a taxi to do so. Our clinicians have all the appropriate equipment and technology at hand if they are in their consulting room.
By all means if you are unwell and feel it may be appropriate ask for a home visit, but please do not be offended if you are asked to make your way to the surgery to be seen. Please call the surgery before 10:30am.
